Blackpool Illuminations

Tommy and Bobby turning on the Blackpool Illuminations, 28th August 1980. This was the same year as their record-breaking summer season at Blackpool North Pier.

The duo fired a large cannon from outside the town hall to turn on the lights. Newspapers at the time reported that the switch-on took place between their first and second houses, meaning it was the shortest ever switch-on ceremony at just 4 minutes long.

In the previous year the illuminations were switched on by Kermit the frog, the following year was by Earl and Countess Spencer.
