The single was taken from their 1992 album of the same name. A video was recorded, although the single was never released.
The song was written by Frank Edwards and Paul Graham.
Frank writes, of the song:
“I first heard that catchy guitar riff when I nipped round to Paul’s home studio. I liked it and wrote the lyrics and melody and Paul played the instruments on that track. It was my first song and it was corny but very catchy.
Derek Underwood was the manager of Manchester singer Paul Young at the time and next thing you know he came into the picture. He had a small music publishing company and had contacts with Cannon & Ball. They loved the song and it got recorded. A Sunday newspaper did a big middle page spread promoting the upcoming Cannon & Ball Xmas song. I remember they did a video in Market Street for this and it’s on YouTube somewhere.
Then, for whatever reason, the comedy duo lost their tv show. Then Pinnacle records decided to not distribute their upcoming album. That was the end of that. I thought I was quids in but alas… it was not to be! But it was fun LOL.”

Drummed Out
Early candidate for worst Christmas song title comes from Cannon and Ball, with ‘Don’t Forget My Christmas Present’. Still, it might be more successful than their first TV appearance on ‘Opportunity Knocks!’ in 1972. They came last. Winners were a drum-playing child accompanied by his Dad on the organ. Cannon and Ball talk about their partnership in ‘Funny Business’, Rowan Atkinsons new BBC2 series starting on 22 Nov.
