Tony Christie
TONY CHRISTIE was born Anthony Fitzgerald, on Easter Sunday, 25th April, 1943, and was raised in Conisborough, a small village near Doncaster in the heart of Yorkshire’s coalfield country.
Tony began singing professionally at the age of fifteen and for many years mixed cabaret with a full time job as he built up his experience and style in the Northern clubs, both as a solo singer and with groups.
In 1970 his talent at last began to be noticed and appreciated and in the last seven years he has made hit records, recorded big selling L.P.s, starred in his own Television Show and toured the world’s major venues.
Tony is now truly an international star and we are delighted to welcome him to Cleethorpes in Jubilee Year.
Cannon and Ball
TOM CANNON and BOBBY BALL are two likeable Lancashire lads who, in the last six years, have become one of the top comedy double acts in the country.
In 1975 they were voted the ‘Top Comedy Duo’ by the readers of the newspaper ‘Club Mirror’, and subsequently appeared on Granada Television’s ‘Wheeltappers and Shunters’ Club Awards Show. The boys were also featured on B.B.C. Television’s ‘Seaside Special’ Programme.
They have toured Australia and South Africa and their summer seasons have included Bournemouth Winter Gardens with Rolf Harris and Jerseys West Park Pavilion. Panto seasons have included the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford with Charlie Drake and Jack Smethurst, and this year they were at the Grand Theatre in Leeds with Harry Worth.
We are proud and delighted to have Tom and Bobby with us this year and we know it will not be long before they become household names.
Barley
These four young men have been fully professional for some years, earning a good living and very rarely out of work, except for holidays, and they have worked most of the major club venues throughout the U.K and supported major stars on U.K. tours.
Ask BARLEY how they started their style of entertainment, and stand back for an unusual answer, how about “We were locked in a club all day for a week in the Welsh mountains and just practised each and every day, stopping only for meals and to entertain the clubs patrons in the evenings”.
The result? At the end of six days they had a polished act worthy of any venue, and Barley was born. Well that was 3 years ago, and since then the boys have never lacked work.
Impression with harmony and comedy is the main theme of the group, but it is cleverly built into a nostalgic review of 40 years of popular music.
Chris North & Jill
In 1973 CHRIS and JILL joined together and launched one of the finest speciality acts in the country.
Chris and Jill have made many T. V. appearances since their first New Faces including Wheeltappers and Shunters and Nationwide as well as working all the country’s Best Venues.
One of the reasons for their success, has been their complete professional approach. The amount of time spent in keeping their illusions smart and n first class condition, and the attention to detail in every aspect, including spectacular costumes, carefully worked out routines, good presentation, this coupled with their charming off-stage manner and co-operation, must soon make them into an internationally known act.
Sandi Ann Leigh
The lovely SANDI who hales from Birmingham has worked in many countries throughout the world, both as a Bluebell Girl for five years and as a solo artiste.
She has achieved great success and in 1976 won the Midlands Variety Command Performance for the Best Female Vocalist.
She works extensively for the British Forces, including a couple of trips to Belfast.
Jill Stuart
