Cannon and Ball

Programme pageOver the last five years TOMMY CANNON and BOBBY BALL have become household names in Great Britan.

Through their top-rated Television shows and their record-breaking Stage shows they are enjoying the adulation exclusively reserved for Pop Stars.

Obviously it was not always like that; after meeting each other twenty years ago and discovering a common interest in entertainment, they decided to ‘try their luck’ on the stage. They worked around the Northern Clubs and pubs as the Harper Brothers for a couple of years developing a unique style of comedy along the way.

In 1972 they changed their name to CANNON AND BALL and began climbing the ladder to success. During that time they appeared on ‘Opportunity Knocks’ and ‘The Wheeltappers and Shunters Club’ Television shows and in Summer Seasons, Pantomimes and Cabaret with such stars as Harry Worth, Rolf Harris, Charlie Drake, Peters and Lee, Larry Grayson and the Brotherhood of Man.

In 1979 London Weekend Television signed them for a television series and the rest is history.

They have broken Box Office records in Blackpool, Bournemouth, Torquay, Scarborough, Birmingham and London’s West End.

Stars such as Cliff Richard, Englebert Humperdink, Paul Young, Status Quo, Leo Sayer, Adam Ant and many more have appeared on their Television shows.

One of the highlights of their career was ‘This Is Your Life’ and they also won the coveted Variety Club award ‘Showbusiness Personalities of the Year’.

Their very own feature film ‘The Boys In Blue’ was a success all around the country and their one-nighter tours are invariably ‘sold out’ long before they arrive.

As to the future. TOMMY AND BOBBY would love to return to Australia and hopefully ‘crack’ America and after their sensational success in Great Britain who could deny that the future looks very bright indeed for CANNON AND BALL.

Lena Zavaroni

Programme pageLENA ZAVARONI rocketed to fame in 1974 with her recording of “Ma, He’s Making Eyes At Me” and became the youngest-ever artiste to appear on BBC Television’s “Top Of The Pops”. He unique talent was introduced to the British public on Thames Television’s “Opportunity Knocks” at the end of 1973 and for five weeks running topped the viewer’s voting polls.

This Scottish lassie from Rothesay has notched up an almost endless succession of ‘firsts’. She was the youngest-ever performer to appear on a Royal Variety Show, starring in two sell-out concerts at the world-famous London Palladium where later she topped the bill for a whole week at the tender age of 14!

In America Lena turned in a show-stopping performance at a Hollywood Charity Gala starring Frank Sinatra and Lucille Ball.

In 1977 Lena appeared before Her Majesty The Queen in a special Royal Charity Gala in Glasgow, which was screen throughout the entire ITV network. Lena followed this success by starring in London Weekend Television’s “Hi Summer” production.

Her T.V. show “Lena On Broadway” was chosen as the BBC entry for the 1978 Golden Sea Swallow Festival in Knokke Belgium, where it won the coveted Silver Award.

In the Spring of 1979 Lena had her very own BBC 1 Television series “Lena Zavaroni And Her Music” which earned her wide acclaim – followed by two further series in 1980 and 1981 both of which had rave reviews.

After a season of Pantomime in 1981/82 playing Maid Marion in “Babes In The Wood” in Birmingham, Lena took a complete break from show business due to ill health.

In the Autumn of 1984 she was invited to do a “Des O’Connor Show” for Thames T.V., and bravely took the plunge! Lena was overwhelmed by the tremendous public reaction to her emotional return and has since appeared on “A Night Of 100 Stars” for L.W.T. and on “The Jimmy Cricket Show” for Central T.V.

Dudley Doolittle

Programme pageComedian DUDLEY DOOLITTLE has a highly developed sense of humour and was born in Rochdale. He says the two are connected. As he puts it “Have you seen Rochdale, you have to laugh before you cry”.

Dudley commenced his career as an entertainer in the 60’s as a singer and guitarist who rapidly moved into comedy when he found his alert observations on life provoked more audience enthusiasm than his guitar playing. Since that time he has appeared many times on television and has frequently worked abroad covering Scandinavia, Middle East, South Africa and the Caribbean. As a supporting artiste he has worked with The Three Degrees and The Bee Gees, and has undertaken summer seasons in Blackpool and The Isle Of Man. His friendly off-the-cuff style has brought him a lot of work in television studios as the unseen ‘warm-up-man’ – a difficult trade to master and one for which Dudley holds the respect of many T.V. producers up and down the country.
